Thank you, Peter! for a wonderful trip down the Erie! Tampa Bay adventuring provides for fewer bird varieties but then we do have gators, snakes, shark, squid, and porpoises! And bugs...
Reading your log reminded me of my trekking days and lengthy delay in returning to the adventuring life I love.
Every time you mentioned seeing Mallard ducks I knew I must share my own habit of saying a little prayer of thanks whenever I see Mallards. You might help the pedal boat gods spread the word by joining this habit.
The early Harken made boat, the one I 1st bought in '86, was called a Mallard (I named mine 'Cold Duck' because my friend and I spilled the wine in the bottom of the boat while boarding on my 'christening' trial run.)I've known the Harken and Nauticraft folks for years and know that they will delight as I have in reading your log and enjoying the feeling of like-minded souls being born every time someone has experiences as we all have in the Mallard cum Escapade.
One of my best memories, apart from a couple of terrifying storms on board, is of phosphoreasence trailing from anchor line one evening followed by porpoise surfacing next to the boat tilting just enuf to the side as if to say 'hello'. What a night.
Thanks again for your stories. You might like to read about some oceanic pedal experiences, namely via www.expedition360.com, a now compelted circumnavigation of the world by Jason Lewis. And read my journal entry on Oct 21st(?)07 about my pedal with him up the Thames. Regards, Nancy
